“We need to create the new economy for the next generation. If we continue to try to create employees alone and not employers too, we will not get very far in these times. We need to create new entrepreneurs, who will create more employment…”
R G Group CEO Rayneau Gajadhar

CEO/Managing Director of the RG Group, Rayneau Gajadhar, feels a great need for new approaches to business. He says recent world changes in business and technology have repainted the international entrepreneurial landscape, but this has not been reflected in how business is done in Saint Lucia. As a result, local business is losing opportunities to effect meaningful change.
Mr Gajadhar was the brain behind the Construction Industry Stimulus Package launched in June 2009. Now he has launched another innovative idea: encouragement of new entrepreneurs, beginning at school level. He has therefore dedicated an initial minimum sum of $50,000.00 to promote, develop and execute a national entrepreneurial project. The objective is to identify and assist primarily young school-leavers and invite them to produce innovative and workable business ideas. Participation is open to all school leavers across the island.
The RG Group’s CEO wants to see a new entrepreneurial class that’s ready to do business today’s way, with today’s and tomorrow’s business tools. Selected ideas would be based on innovation, applicability, effectiveness and other identified criteria. Each winner will be given, by the RG Group, a grant representing a substantial ‘starting capital’ contribution towards implementation of the selected business idea. Applicants must have left school, at any level. No qualifications are required. All the applicant needs is a good, viable idea -- and the drive to make it work. Importantly, the idea must also be sustainable, at least for the applicant(s).

Aim:
To create a climate to encourage entrepreneurship among students and school-leavers, including drop outs.

Reason:
The more new entrepreneurs there are in the country, the more new ideas will flow on how to get out of the recession and the more there will be scope for continuing employment generation. The more young people are attracted to the new ways of doing business, the better for the future of the country’s business and economic climate.

Why now:
It's the best time, as the current state of the economy will force many to do new things that they would not normally have done. By taking chances, many can win.
